Apex Legends - World's Edge (Mirage Voy'age)

In Season 3 Meltdown we released a new Multiplayer map called 'World's Edge,' and I was really excited to work on a later update for it centered around the character Mirage! This Town Takeover was a huge team effort requiring many different departments to sync up so we could make this area memorable. Based off my Env Art Director Robert Taube's initial vehicle blockout I modeled the ship's interior and exterior in Maya, then kitbashed it with some new floor and metal textures I created. Many of the other textures and props I added for world building were existing assets shared across the Titanfall/Apex Art team and made by other artists.

Env Art support: Env Art Director Robert Taube, Env Art Lead Jose Zavala, Jobye-Kyle Karmaker, Richard Rude, Brooke Olson, Lighting by Austin Arnett
More support: Designers Alex Graner, Mike Anderson, Jason McCord; Apex Concept Art, FX, Animation teams
Additional feedback: Env Art Lead Lewis Walden, Principal Artist Michael Altamirano, The Apex Env Art Team

Jose Zavala arted up the exterior terrain surrounding the floating ship, while Robert Taube helped tweak my first pass gold metal texture to get the final look we wanted.

Awesome FX done by artists Casey Robinson and Robert "Robot" Gaines. I kitbashed mechanical thruster geo pieces underneath the bottom of the ship which were originally made by Lewis Walden.

The Respawn Beacon seating area, and yellow ground Lootball hatches were made by artist Jobye-Kyle Karmaker. Designers Alex Graner and Mike Anderson made hitting the "Party" button one of the most fun things to do on the ship.

With help from our Animation team, the Mirage portraits in the Grand Hall were painted by Concept Artist Luca Xu with direction from Concept Art Lead Jung Park. The Mirage statue was made by Robert Taube. I added the stars on the ceiling for fun.

I really wanted Mirage to have several corkboards with selfies to show off more of his personality so I repurposed some of these character artworks (created by concept artists Hethe Srodawa, and Rodrigo Ribiero) to make the displays.

These Mirage Legends Banners were originally assembled by Austin Arnett, and I turned them into framed pictures that could decorate the walls.

I also kept the ground emptier for gameplay reasons so players could find loot easier when they ran in.  Memory constraints were also something to keep in mind while on this task.

One of our teams' biggest challenges was trying to make the landmark read from the opening Dropship view. Skydome created by Marcos Shih. Tri Do, Jake Virginia, and Jose Zavala worked on the terrain in this shot.
